This unique winter wonderland wedding invitation was designed for a wedding at the iconic New York Public Library. We illustrated a one of a kind motif for the bac of the invitation which was inspired by haute couture beadwork and appliqués. The beadwork features winter berries, sequins and evergreen branches and was printed in pearlescent and navy foils on snow white velvet paper. The enclosure cards were tied together by a laser cut bellyband.
Sketches
We began the process with some different invitation directions all centering around the idea of a Winter Wonderland wedding. Inspiration was taken from winter foliage, seasonal flowers and the New York Public Library, the couple’s wedding venue.
Laser Cut Designs
We explored different options for the laser cut component in the suite from various contemporary sleeves to winter inspired bellybands drawing from seasonal poinsettias and spruces.
Monograms
No design is ever complete without a unique monogram which is the centerpiece of the invitation suite. We explored a variety of monograms ranging from classic to more contemporary styles.
Color Study
A color study helped us determine the right balance of red, and white or blue and white to achieve the perfect wintery feel. We explored these various combinations on the invitation, envelope, bellyband and envelope liner
Illustration
We created a custom illustrated motif for the invitation suite which was inspired by fashion embroidery and beadwork. The design was inspired by spruce branches and winter berries. The illustration even features faux beads and sequins which were printed in tonal and matte blue foils.
Design Extension
Once the look and feel were defined, we embarked on the process of extending the design to all the pieces in the invitation suite including the enclosure cards, liners and envelopes. The winter lace motif that we developed was applied throughout the suite.
Production
After the design of the laser cut bellyband is completed, our team then ensures that the artwork is engineered for the laser cutting process. We make sure that every cutout has the proper bridges and support built into the design for it’s structural integrity.
Final Design
At the end of the creative process, after all edits and refinements are made, the full suite comes to life in the hands of our expert team of printers and craftsmen.
