Melissa & Joey
For a distinctly Art Deco wedding at the iconic Edison Ballroom in New York City, we created this luxurious letterpress invitation suite which took inspiration from classic 1930s deco motifs and architecture including the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Every individual piece is designed to look different and unique while still tying together as a suite.
Sketches
We began the process with a few different design directions all centered around the style of the 1920s and Art Deco geometry. We designed a few alternate front and back designs which featured deco typography and unique geometric prints.
Monograms
No design is ever complete without a unique monogram which is the centerpiece of the invitation suite. We explored different variations of a modern monogram with a deco border.
Design Refinement
Once the look and feel were defined, we embarked on the process of extending the design to all the pieces in the invitation suite. We wanted to the suite to feel coordinated as a whole without being too “matchy matchy” so each item, from reply card to envelopes has different design elements that work harmoniously with the overall design aesthetic.
Pattern Design
We designed a custom geometric pattern to lock up perfectly with the unique Art Deco monogram we designed. The pattern was eventually usedon the back of the invitation. as well as throughout the suite.
Details, details, details….
Every element and detail in the suite is carefully considered. We continued the geometric pattern and applied it in different ways throughout the suite from the reply envelopes to the enclosure cards.
Illustration
Since the couple was getting married in New York City, we gave a special nod to the city by illustrating the NYC skyline in a vintage, 1920s travel poster style, which we then applied to the invitation envelope. A perfect first impression!
Final Design
At the end of the creative process, after all edits and refinements are made, the full suite comes to life in the hands of our expert team of printers and craftsmen.
