Jen & Olivier
For a wedding at a French Chateau in Burgundy and with a bride and groom of mixed heritages (Chinese and French), we were tasked with creating a wedding invitation that blended two cultures together. We did this by hand illustrating the chateau as a nod to the wedding venue and the groom's heritage but also crafting a custom monogram that was inspired by traditional Chinese seals to reflect the bride's culture. The result is elegant and unique which reflects the coming together of two families.
SKETCHES
We started the process by developing a few options for the invitation card. We looked at different font combinations and a few options that were versatile enough and would work harmoniously with a Chinese seal monogram as well as with a watercolor illustration.
ILLUSTRATION
Once our sketch of the wedding venue was approved, we painted the final piece with watercolor paints in vivid greens and deep earth tones.
ALTERNATE DESIGNS
After settling on an illustration style, we explored a few different motifs and patterns for the wrap exterior. Some were inspired by grapevines as a nod to the vineyard while others were inspired by Chinese decorative knots.
MONOGRAMS
No design is ever complete without a unique monogram which is the centerpiece of the invitation suite. For Jen and Olivier, we designed a wedding monogram that was made to emulate a traditional Chinese seal with a slight modern twist.
FINAL REFINEMENTS
After the design work is completed we make all the final refinements on the computer before sending our designs off to production.
FINAL DESIGN
At the end of the creative process, after all edits and refinements are made, the full suite comes to life in the hands of our expert team of printers and craftsmen.
