There are few places that embody the romance of the Italian countryside quite like La Foce. Set among the rolling hills of Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia, the historic estate and its extraordinary gardens became the setting for Chanelle and Daniel’s destination wedding—a multi-day celebration that brought friends and family from around the world to Italy. The weekend began at nearby Borgo di Castelvecchio, where guests gathered around long wooden tables for a relaxed, family-style welcome dinner. Tuscan food, roaming musicians and open seating created an atmosphere that felt generous and convivial rather than formal: an introduction not only to the wedding weekend, but to the landscape, hospitality and easy elegance of Tuscany itself. For the wedding day, the celebration moved to La Foce. The estate’s famous gardens provided the setting for an outdoor ceremony surrounded by the lush greenery of the Val d’Orcia. An Italian aperitivo followed, accompanied by the energy of a Cuban band, before guests gathered beneath a marquee nestled between two ancient oak trees for an elegant dinner and evening of speeches, music and dancing.
PAINTING A SENSE OF PLACE
When we began designing Chanelle and Daniel’s wedding invitations, we knew that the setting needed to be more than an address printed on the card. La Foce and the surrounding Tuscan countryside were such an integral part of the experience they were creating for their guests that the landscape itself became the foundation of the stationery. We painted an original watercolor of the view from the estate in vivid greens and deep earth tones, transforming it into a wrap that completely enveloped the invitation suite. Opening it became a small preview of what awaited guests in Italy. Inside, we deliberately quieted the design, pairing earthy letterpress tones with rich gold foil and delicate Italian flourishes so that the landscape remained the defining visual element. An ornate gold emblem completed the exterior with a note of old-world formality.
What makes destination wedding stationery particularly exciting to us is its ability to establish a sense of place long before the celebration begins. In this case, the rolling hills, cypress trees and layers of Tuscan green that guests first encountered in watercolor were the same landscape they would eventually find themselves standing within at La Foce. Seen alongside the finished wedding, the relationship becomes especially meaningful. The invitation wasn’t designed simply to coordinate with the event—it helped introduce its visual language. The landscape, natural palette, Italian ornament and balance between rustic warmth and formality began on paper and became part of a much larger experience once guests arrived in Tuscany.
Chanelle and Daniel’s wedding is a beautiful example of what we love most about creating custom wedding stationery: finding the element that makes a celebration unmistakably its own and translating it into something guests can see, touch and experience before the wedding has even begun.
