Modern Watercolor Wedding Invitation

This couple commissioned us to create a beautiful watercolor wedding invitation suite for their elegant New York wedding. We created a unique monogram drawing for them which incorporated the idea of the tree of life, a way to symbolize two families uniting into one. The invitation card was presented in a folder which contained all their enclosure cards.

The Inspiration

Sketches

We began the process by exploring a few illustration styles and designs for the invitation card and folder cover. The couple were very intrigued by the idea of combining geometric, Deco inspired lines with softer watercolor florals.

Painting

We watercolor painted the various elements in the invitation suite from the custom tree of life monogram border, to the modern meets floral border on the corners of the invitation. Even the letters of the monogram were lettered by hand

Watercolor process for crest and design elements

Monograms

No design is ever complete without a unique monogram which is the centerpiece of the invitation suite. We explored a few different takes on a classic script monogram which we paired with floral borders. We also developed a special tree of life illustration, designed as a nod to two families coming together, an expression of marital unity.

Every element and detail in the suite is carefully considered. We made final refinements on the to the watercolor illustration on the computer before going to print.
