Andrew Mellon Auditorium Wedding

Andrea & Chris

For Andrea and Chris’ Washington, DC wedding, we wanted to create a custom wedding invitation that felt every bit as romantic and refined as the celebration itself. Their weekend moved from an intimate rehearsal dinner at Café Milano to a ceremony at the St. Regis and, finally, the grandeur of the Andrew Mellon Auditorium—so the stationery needed to feel formal without feeling expected. Rather than taking the obvious route with traditional Washington motifs, we looked to the softness and intricacy of antique lace.

An elaborate laser-cut sleeve became the first reveal, opening to layers of warm ivory, champagne and gold. Delicate floral details carried throughout the suite, while letterpress printing, foil stamping and subtly shimmering papers gave each piece its own texture and dimension. The result was a luxury wedding invitation suite that balanced two sides of the celebration beautifully: the stateliness of a Washington, DC wedding and the intimate, romantic details that made the weekend distinctly Andrea and Chris.

Romance, on a Grand Scale

Planned by SoCo Events, Andrea and Chris’s celebration brought a softer, romantic sensibility to the grandeur of the Andrew Mellon Auditorium. Lush arrangements of blush, ivory and dusty rose filled the neoclassical space, while candlelight, crystal and touches of gold brought warmth to its soaring proportions. Against it all, Andrea’s intricately embellished gown added another layer of delicate texture and old-world romance.

What we loved most was the interplay between those elements—the scale of the architecture against the intimacy of a beautifully considered detail; the formality of the setting against flowers that felt abundant and effortless. From lace and fashion to florals, paper and place, each element had its own voice while still feeling part of the same story.

It’s that larger visual story that we consider when designing for a wedding: not simply how an invitation looks on its own, but how it feels within the world a couple and their creative team are bringing to life.
