This festive and colorful invitation suite incorporates lots of details and inspiration from the bride and groom as well as from the wedding venue. The folder is printed with blue and pink foil thistles as a nod back to the bride's Scottish heritage and to the wedding floral arrangements of berries and succulents while the interior features a custom hand drawn sketch of the iconic Ballantyne Hotel in pearlescent foil. All the cards and inserts were printed in matching foils and were placed in an intricate laser cut pocket.

The Inspiration

Sketches

We began the process with some different invitation directions all centering around the idea of a bright, colorful folder inspired by the playful patterns of fashion designer, Lilly Pulitzer. The bride was also eager to incorporate thistle flowers, a national symbol of Scotland as a nod to her family’s heritage.

Monograms

No design is ever complete without a unique monogram which is the centerpiece of the invitation suite. We explored a variety of monograms ranging from classic to more contemporary styles.

Illustration

We created a custom illustration of the Ballantyne Hotel which also incorporated a mountain range from the bride’s hometown. The illustration is rendered in pen and ink which we then printed in pearl foil on the interior of the invitation folder.

Design Extension

Once the look and feel are defined, we embark on the process of extending the design to all the pieces in the invitation suite. For Kailtyn and Marc, this involved incorporating our Thistle and berries motif throughout the suite.

Digitizing Drawings

We initially created the floral designs with pencil on paper. The next step afterwards was to take our drawing and digitize on the computer so we could use it on all the various pieces in the stationery suite.

Design Refinement

Once the look and feel were defined, we embarked on the process of extending the design to all the pieces in the invitation suite. We wanted to the suite to feel coordinated as a whole without being too “matchy matchy” so each item, from reply card to envelopes has different design elements that work harmoniously with the overall design aesthetic.

Final Design

At the end of the creative process, after all edits and refinements are made, the full suite comes to life in the hands of our expert team of printers and craftsmen.
