Real Wedding: La Belle Epoque in Lake Tahoe

At Atelier Isabey we often enjoy living vicariously through our clients and their amazing weddings all over the world! From Saudi Arabia to Ghana to Brazil, we’ve had clients come to us from all walks of life and from all over the world (we’ve worked with princesses, athletes, lawyers, bankers, bakers, even an FBI agent!). We enjoy putting ourselves in their proverbial shoes and envisioning all the beauty and fantasy of what’s to come for their big day.  That makes it all the more fun when our clients come to us for destination weddings in the most scenic corners of the world and because our research and process is so involved, by the time we’re finished with the invitations, we often feel like we’ve even been there ourselves! This is especially true of the wedding of Elisa and Ryan, a sweet and fun loving couple who came to us with the request to bring to life their vision of a Belle Epoque wedding invitation for a Lake Tahoe destination wedding.

With Art Deco being very much in the front seat of the wedding trends these past few years, I’m excited to shine the spotlight on another truly inspirational time period. La Belle Epoque literally means “The Beautiful Era” in French, which took place in the late 19th and early 20th century. The art and design during this time was all about the beauty of nature, flowers, plants and creating art that echoed the pretty, sinuous curves derived from nature. So this was utter perfection given that Lake Tahoe couldn’t be more of a perfect match. We proceeded to design a one of a kind piece for them that utilized jewel tones found in nature (think raspberries, leafy greens and lake tinted azure blues) as well as motifs that echoed the period style they were excited to recreate. The whole thing was finished off with a custom watercolor painted map of Lake Tahoe we made just for them. We’re proud to say that that the invitations as well as the rest of the stationery set the tone for the beauty that was to follow.

To design the wedding, the couple turned to planner Stephanie Anderson of One Fine Day Events to blend their eclectic tastes with timeless elegance. Says Elisa,“We tried to create an event that was a reflection of our values: heartfelt and meaningful, classy and beautiful—but also a ton of fun!”. The big day was captured through the lens of the talented Catherine Hall.

Real Wedding: Modern Glamour at The Mandarin

We’d like to start off by saying Happy New Year to all and we’re excited to be back and blogging about a brand new year filled with gorgeous invitations, flawless designs and fabulous weddings. To kick everything off, we’re excited to share a beautiful wedding that we worked on last year for Inez and Larry. Inez came to us with a vision to create invitations that were not only unique and custom but as fashion-forward, edgy and glamorous as she! We took the task to heart and began designing an invitation worthy of New York Fashion Week! With plush python textures, gilded details and even hand finished metal appliqués, no detail was left unturned.

The wedding itself took place at The Mandarin Oriental in New York and what a sight to behold! With jaw dropping visuals and details to delight every sense, Inez and Larry’s wedding team really brought her look and feel to the next level. Tantawan Bloom orchestrated the lush, over the top florals set in a sleek, loungy atmosphere that was accentuated with bold graphic, and twinkling linens by Nüage Designs. We absolutely love the sequined chevron prints that provided an eclectic twist to the tablescapes! The day was captured in gorgeous vivid color by Danny Weiss Photography.

Real Wedding: Dracula Castle Halloween Wedding

With Halloween right around the corner and everyone getting their costumes and parties ready, we decided to get in the spooky spirit by sharing one of our favorite Halloween weddings with you this week. It’s always a special treat when a couple truly embraces a theme and story and weaves it throughout every aspect of their wedding day.

Marie and Frank’s wedding was a sight to behold as they took all things Halloween to the next level with a Dracula’s Castle look and feel. Sounds dangerous? They say the devil is in the details and this was truly no exception with amazing details spanning everything from the jewelry and accessories to daring coffin shaped wedding programs! Every moment and element was captured in vivid detail by the talented Photo Pink Photography and we were so blown away that we’ve decided to dedicate not one but two posts about this creative wedding! Our first post will be devoted to their wedding while on the second one we’ll focus on the amazing details and how you can take their inspiration and make it come to life for your own halloween party!

We were also really excited when we got wind of the news that Marie and Frank’s wedding was also set to be featured on TLC’s Four Weddings! How cool is that? We’ve included the video at the bottom of this post if you want to see more!

Design Inspiration: Fashion Week Inspired Invitations

aib_fw_title

With summer transitioning into fall, New York Fashion Week is upon us again! Every year I look forward to the shows as the designers introduce their new Spring collections for the world to see. It’s such an inspiring spectacle to behold for artists and designers of all disciplines as we’ll all soon see these trends trickle down to the worlds of interiors, product design, graphic design and beyond! This week I’d like to highlight some of my favorite looks from this week’s shows and share some of our most fashion forward invitation designs. We even put together selections for you to be able to wear the look and bring in a bit of fashion week flair into your wardrobe and accessories!

One of the most sophisticated color pairings in my opinion is blue and white. You see it everywhere from blue and white China to French fabrics and the result is always sophisticated and memorable. I’m delighted to see many designers adopt this gorgeous combination. We recently designed an invitation suite which had this color motif that we painted in watercolors.

I’ve always had a particular affinity for dramatic fashion statements so seeing many designers embrace maximalism (think the opposite of minimalism) and combining patterns, textures and precious metals has gotten me inspired and excited! When we designed a fashion week inspired invitation suite for our stylish clients Inez and Larry, I decided to bring in all of this inspiration to really elevate their invitations into something truly runway ready!

Last but certainly not least, one of my favorite continuing trends is all things gilded and ornamental! This week, I’ve seen stunning dresses by the likes of Zac Posen and Monique Lhuillier which are sure to take your breath away! Similarly, at Atelier Isabey, we love all things opulent and reminiscent of another time and age. The gilded lace invitations below do just that and set forth a regal tone while still remaining elegant and delicate. The perfect blend!

Design Inspiration: Destination Invitations

blog_cities_0

We often get asked the question “How can I incorporate my wedding destination (or my wedding venue) into my wedding invitations?”. First of all, just because you aren’t traveling to an exotic tropical destination, doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate elements from your venue or space! From architectural details and maps to city skylines, the possibilities abound! Recently, we’ve seen so many clients look to incorporate their own city skyline into their  invitations that we extended two of our popular NYC designs (our Gotham and Madison) to encompass other cities as well! I’ve also taken the time to outline some unexpected ways that you can incorporate your own unique destination into a custom wedding invitation. Hint: It’s not necessarily having an iconic landmark on the invitation card (though that works too!).

Here are a couple more examples. Watercolor painted area maps are great to get a splash of color! You can also go more classic and opt for a look that’s more hand engraved like old etchings from the 1900s!

Last but not least, due to popular demand, we’re so excited to unveil a brand new range of cityscapes in our Gotham and Madison designs. Our New York City designs were such a hit, we wanted to share them with couples getting married all over the country and the world!

These designs now boast a range of iconic cityscapes! In the US we have San Francisco, Chicago, Washington DC, Brooklyn and (of course) New York! Internationally, we’ve added Shanghai, Paris, London, Rome, Vienna, Toronto, Sydney and Moscow!

Looking to illustrate your city? Give us a buzz and let us know where you’re getting married and we can make one just for you!
