Real Wedding: A New York Public Library Wedding

New York Public Library Wedding

Being a studio located in the heart of New York City, we’re fortunate to encounter so many couples embracing the spirit and style this great city has to offer. From Grand Ballrooms and swanky lofts to Botanical Gardens, it really has it all! However, very few venues are as iconic and embody NYC as much as the landmark New York Public Library. With it’s history, unique façade and interiors, it really brings you to a different place and time. So we were very excited when one of our couples, Amanda and Warren came to us looking to capture that old world New York feel. We got to work customizing one of our collection pieces, (the elegant Gotham design) and incorporating details from the library architecture into their invitations.

Amanda and Warren worked with the best of the best, putting together their special day. The talented Jason & Rebecca Walker from Ira Lippke Studios were there to capture all the special moments while planners Sidekick Events weaved their theme and look throughout the interior and decor (I love how they used library themed elements like books for table cards!). Now go ahead and take a big bite out of this Big Apple inspired wedding!

Design Inspiration: A Fabulous Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July! Every year we look forward to enjoying the holidays with friends and family whether it’s going up to my in-laws home in Vermont or enjoying the patriotic spirit in the city. Loved ones, the outdoors, good food, festive spirit, what could be better? A couple of years ago, we had the pleasure of designing a wedding invitation for a couple getting married over the 4th of July weekend and we were ecstatic! From rustic wooden signs, gingham tablecloths, to twinkling lights, sparklers and cozy backyard barbecuing, this holiday is filled with amazing visuals and inspiration! We took the task to heart and designed a fabulous laser cut invitation that mimicked the beauty of fourth of July fireworks in an elegant and sophisticated way. We even went as far as to include little stars in the motif as a nod back to the American flag!

So with the weekend celebrations in mind, I’ve collected some of my favorite (not to mention most sophisticated) 4th of July inspiration to share with you today. From these decorative red and blue sailboat escort cards from our friends at SoCo Events to adorable patriotic cupcakes by NYC cupcake queen Baked by Melissa, get excited for the holiday weekend with this beyond fab inspiration!

Now how do you take all this gorgeous inspiration and bring it to your party this weekend? Here are my favorite style and accessory picks for how to bring our Fourth of July style to life this holiday weekend!

1. Flip Flops by Tory Burch 2. Panama Hat by J Crew 3. Mascara by Lancôme 4. Sunglasses by Cutler and Gross 5.  Cookbook by Bobby Flay 6. Earrings by Aurélie Bidermann

Gatsby: Dreaming of Deco

Gatsby: Dreaming of Deco | Design Inspiration

It’s no surprise that Art Deco and Gatsby style is all the rage right now. With it’s growing influence on fashion runways, easy transition into elegant home and lifestyle design and the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic on the way, we’re confident that this 1920s and 30s throwback will be sure to continue making a splash this year in weddings and events. Personally, I love how this iconic style can be so versatile, from clean, metallic and geometric lines to all out decked out flapper extravagance (and everywhere in between)! We were so inspired we even created our own take with our Ellington wedding invitation which is sure to set the tone for a party Jay Gatsby would be proud to throw!

So with that in mind, we’ve gathered some of our favorite Deco inspiration, not to mention enlisted the help of one of our favorite event designers, Swank Productions to showcase how you can bring some Gatsby glitter into your own event and wedding. One of my favorite things about Maya Kalman and her team is that they are constantly pushing the envelope as far as concept and innovation are concerned. That makes things all the more exciting for us as stationery designers because we get to try all these new and edgy ideas we’ve been dying to try! I absolutely love how their magnificent designs, complete with ostrich feather centerpieces to dripping chandeliers in the iconic Edison Ballroom bring to life the Deco spirit in a fresh and modern way.

Take a look for yourselves!

Spring 2014 Bridal Market Illustrated

Spring 2014 Bridal Market Illustrated

As you may know, Bridal Market took place a week ago. The event always generates so much excitement with designers showcasing their new collections, trends and announcing the next wave in wedding fashion. It’s no surprise that fashion, and wedding dresses in particular, inspire so many areas of a couple’s wedding. From the dramatic flair of color that can inspire the lighting at the ceremony to the beautiful lace details in a beautiful bodice that can be translated onto stationery, linens and decor alike, bridal market inspires more than just a bride. It influences a whole industry.

This year, I was so  inspired by some of the looks that I wasted no time putting pen (or brush) to paper and letting my imagination take me where it wanted. I’ve been very inspired lately by fashion illustrations by the likes of Gruau, Erté, and more recently Katie Rodgers (whom I recently took a class with!). You know what they say, the second you stop learning is the second that you stop being passionate about what you do. With that said, I took paint, sequins and glitter to paper, illustrating the looks of industry heavyweights Reem Acra and Vera Wang to some truly inspired pieces by the likes of Maggie Sottero, Angel Sanchez and Hayley Paige. I hope you enjoy!

Real Weddings: Central Park Celebration

Central Park Celebration

We’re always excited when we encounter two people who are so in love and have put a tremendous amount of thought into their wedding day to ensure their friends and family have a great time. Tara and Jessie did just that and we were so happy to see how their team of wedding vendors came together to bring to life their vision. Everything was in the thoughtful and personalized details. Since Jessie is a mathematician, the escort cards contained equations, which led people to their table, and sparked lots of conversation during cocktail hour. Similarly, Tara who had studied Japanese culture and the arts wanted to incorporate Japanese Maple leaves and trees onto the wedding invitation (a perfect complement to the garden setting in Central Park). We fused the natural foliage with mathematics inspired lattice-work that merged into one another seamlessly.

Our friend and uber talented event designer Tzo Ai Ang of Ang Weddings and Events took up the task of artfully weaving their story throughout all the details from the beautiful Central Park Boathouse space, to the cake by Sugar Flower Cake Shop, the flowers by Lenox Hill Florist and beyond. The special moments were captured by Craig Paulson so the couple can continue to enjoy them for years to come.

Real Wedding: Botanical Beauty

Real Wedding: Botanical Beauty

I love gardens and botanical garden inspired weddings so it only seemed natural for my husband Steve and I to tie the knot at the gorgeous Palmhouse at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in the Spring of 2008. Fast forward years later, we were delighted when our clients Kristen and Nick decided to get married at the same venue! We often feel like we get to experience the weddings of our couples through the work that we create for them but for this wedding, we could honestly say that we really had experienced it firsthand!

Kristen was all about embracing the natural beauty and serenity of the garden and sharing that with her family and guests. So with that we decided to invite all of her guests with a beautiful invitation suite inspired by the botanical elements and foliage of the garden and highlight the unique architecture of the elegant glass Palmhouse. She turned to Merci New York, one of the leaders in luxury bridal styling for her to weave the look and theme into her wardrobe and styling while Karen Zieff of Zieff Photography was there to capture all the special moments. The result was as elegant and sophisticated as it was meaningful and peaceful. Take a look for yourselves!
